Product Development at Breville is all about delivering product excellence. Truthfully, every team in the business is driven by the desire to create the best product they can. When we’re at our best we keep the customer at the centre of our vision, working together to deeply understand the moments that matter to them in the kitchen and essentially deliver appliances that represent ‘mastery in a box’. We know we’ve delivered mastery when we can hand on heart say that the food results are better, simpler to achieve, involve less time and hassle and are more engaging to create. Creating products with this difference means taking the time to really understand food & the user, having the courage to try new and difficult things, having the tenaciousness to see them through with good humour and an openness to learn and evolve along the way. This is summed up by our tagline ‘master every moment’, something that is deeply embedded in the way we work.
All that… and we’re offering the role in either of our 2 development centre locations! Our Head Office in Sydney is located within a ½ an hour of our world-famous beaches and 20minute train ride from the iconic Sydney Opera House and vibrant CBD. Based in Alexandria, our corporate campus is nestled in a bustling former industrial precinct that is growing some serious foodie credentials. Likewise, our Seattle offices are based a stone’s throw from the iconic Pikes Place market in Downtown Seattle, a place steeped in serious food and tech cultures. Interested? Read on.
About Global Product
Breville’s philosophical position on product development is that it is very much an evolving dialogue between what is desirable for the customer, technically possible to achieve and commercially viable to deliver. Therefore no one discipline can impose its will on the other. Innovation at Breville is every inch a team sport! You’ll get to work with an amazing array of passionate development specialists, from industrial designers and engineers to food specialists, UX practitioners and software architects in a fun and collaborative environment. We work to develop products in a hybrid agile environment and have been deliberate in the way we’ve arranged our product development process. We move from disciplined experimentation to develop and vet ideas; to iterative development to establish product feasibility and work up detailed designs; to execution to plan to industrialise products for manufacture. In this spirit, Product Management at Breville is no less dynamic and collaborative and plays a key role throughout the development process.
The Product Manager for Connected Product Software and Services is a new role at Breville and as such, your responsibilities will evolve and change with the business’s approach to developing and supporting our consumer facing offers e.g. connected appliances, companion apps etc. As envisioned, the core of the role is to bridge the gap between the vision for the customer experience of our connected products and services (helping our customers to master every moment in their kitchens), and the hardware and software development teams and technological back end platforms that will power them. This Product Manager role will collaboratively drive the definitions of Why and What for our connected products and services and work closely with development teams and partners on planning How and When deliveries happen to accomplish the roadmap and ensure success for each connected product and service. The role offers a mix of strategic thinking and practical implementation focussed work. At one level, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the strategy and roadmap for our connected products and software services including developing requirements that inform IOT platform and infrastructure investments. A key part of this will be actively monitoring the market for connected products and appliances (especially in the domain of the connected kitchen), and collaborating with development, technology and market facing teams to both inform and gather their requirements. At the other end of the spectrum, you will be working closely with product and platform owners to ensure the consumer value and commercial viability of the connected software and service components of their products are in balance with their technical feasibility through-out the development process, all the way from ideation to release. Specifically you’ll be expected to help Portfolio GMs, Category Managers and development teams to understand use cases for connectivity, to help ideate ways to connect using Breville platforms, to explain the pitfalls, costs and benefits of various technologies and architectures, and to be an expert on what kinds of connected use cases work in the market place and what don’t to help them form stronger connected strategies and offers. You should be the internal go-to person for advice on how connectivity and software-based services may augment, enhance or create value for any of our product offerings. As such, you’ll be expected to conduct your own research to keep abreast of consumer and technology developments in the connected product space.Given the role is global by nature you will be required to maintain effective communication (including travel) with teams in many locations including Seattle, Sydney and Bangalore, so you should relish the opportunity to work with people across the globe on cutting edge IOT solutions. We’re growing fast and the company you join tomorrow will be different from the one in 2 years’ time. The role offers plenty of room for growth and is designed for stretch. This role means being a core member of a high-performance team creating this future. As such, your package includes bonuses based on group performance, so you not only feel part of the success story, but you’re rewarded as part of it too. What we’re looking for:
